If you’re in sales, my guess is that you are the type of person who is always looking to improve. You, in all your awesomeness, are constantly seeking out ways to get better at sales, grow faster and close more deals. I applaud you and I am right there with you!

However, sometimes it is overwhelming because there are soooo many different strategies and techniques, many of which take a lot of time to master, and well, you want to get better NOWWWW – the same way Veruca Salt wanted an Oompa Loompa.

I get it! I am here for you.

Let’s keep it simple, and actionable, and immediate. Here are 5 things you can do to get better at sales every day:

1- MOVE YOUR BODY

In order to be ready to take on a fun filled day of selling you have to get yourself into a great state. One of the best ways to do that is to move your body. Do it first thing in the morning no matter how little time you have. I really don’t care what you do…run, bike, swim, do 10 jumping jacks, zumba – I am not judging, what’s important is that you do it. Know that this isn’t about how you look, it is about how you feel.

Here’s why-

Physical exercise is one of the greatest things you can do for your brain. It is scientifically proven to boost dopamine which is a key factor in motivation, productivity, and focus. Everything you need to be the best sales person you can be.

Plus, I find that if I am able to push myself physically in the morning – even when I don’t feel like it, I am way more likely to make calls – even when I don’t feel like it.  It’s sort of like, “Hey, I already ran 5 miles today so making 5 cold calls is no big deal.” Stay tuned for more on this.

2- FEED YOUR MIND

No you don’t have to read Tools of Titans cover-to-cover before you hit the office, but maybe just one section while you finish your coffee. Listen to a Podcast on your way to the office or read a trade article instead of scrolling the gram while you wait for an appointment.

Feeding your brain with positive messages and information that will serve you is essential to your success. It sparks curiosity and provides new insights and motivation that can carry you through the day.

Besides, there is just something magical about 10 minutes of the Ed Mylett Show before sitting down at my desk in the morning or devouring an audiobook between meetings. Whatever it is for you, make sure you do it daily.

3- MAKE 5 COLD CALLS

Right, no bid deal! 5 may not seem like a lot, but if you make a promise to do 5 you are way more likely to follow through than if you said 50 for the day. 5 should be the minimum, if you hit a flow and have more time go for it.

On the other hand, if you don’t set a goal or an intention of cold calling each day it may not happen at all. Other things will inevitably come up and take priority. Building your cold calling muscle is seriously one of the best things you can do for your business.

4- MAKE 5 FOLLOW UP CALLS

Follow up calls are as important, if not more important than cold calls. Make your follow up game so strong it could pull a grizzly bear out of the woods. Never assume because you haven’t heard back from a prospect that they are not interested- more often than not they are just busy and need to hear from you.

Find a follow up system that works for you, (CRM, excel sheet, back of the napkin) and make a commitment to following up with at least 5 prospects per day. This alone will start transforming the number of deals you close.

5- REVIEW THE DAY AND PLAN TOMORROW

At the end of each day take a moment to look back at how the day went. Jot down 2-3 things that didn’t go so well, note something positive that you can take away from it and what you can improve on the next day. Also, write down 2-3 things you can be grateful for. Keep this simple so you keep it up, you don’t need to write a novel, unless you want to. This act of reviewing and appreciating the day will make tomorrow even better.

Also, take a few minutes to look at your schedule for tomorrow and plan out how you want the day to go. I forget who said it, but its true, “If you don’t run the day, the day will run you.”

There you go- just like Clairol, Nice ‘N Easy. Only 5 things to get better at sales every day! You got this! I hope you implement these and see your day and your sales improve.
